“Never spend your money before you have it”-Profitability and Sustainability Rules in the Premier League

Introduction

An independent commission comprising three judges appointed by the independent chair of the Premier Legal Judicial Panel began its’ hearing of 115 alleged breaches of the Profitability and Sustainability Rules (“PSR”) by Manchester City Football Club on 28 September 2024, which is expected to last two months. This article aims to provide a summary of the Premier League’s Profitability and Sustainability Rules alongside select relevant cases.
